A family history
Edwin Lugo Walker comes from a rich and deeply rooted Puerto Rican lineage shaped by resilience, cultural pride, and generational achievement. His maternal family, the Walker family, traces its origins to Loíza, Puerto Rico, a region known for its strong Afro–Puerto Rican heritage and enduring traditions.
At the center of this lineage is his grandfather, Innocencio Walker, a respected and successful member of the Loíza community. The Walker family was known as progressive, hardworking, and community-oriented people who contributed to the social and economic fabric of the region. Innocencio was part of an extended family network that included notable relatives, among them the family of baseball legend Roberto Clemente Walker. The entire family supported Roberto’s lofty baseball dreams that would all come true. Innocencio Walker was the first cousin of Luisa Walker, Roberto Clemente’s mother, making Edwin Lugo Walker part of the same extended Walker lineage that produced one of Puerto Rico’s most revered icons.
As the Walker family established themselves, they eventually settled in Carolina, Puerto Rico (historically referred to as Borinquen), where they continued to build a reputation as industrious and forward-thinking members of society. Their values emphasized perseverance, family unity, and cultural pride—principles that would carry through future generations.

In the mid-20th century, during the height of Operation Bootstrap—a period marked by economic transformation and forced migration—Noemí Walker, daughter of Innocencio, relocated to New York City in search of greater opportunity. Like many Puerto Ricans of her generation, she became part of a vibrant diaspora that reshaped the cultural landscape of the city.
In New York, Noemí met Reverend César Lugo, and the two soon married, forming a family grounded in faith, resilience, and shared ambition. Together, they raised four children, passing down the legacy of both the Walker and Lugo families. From this union emerged Edwin Lugo Walker, whose life and career as an entertainer reflect the fusion of heritage, artistry, and perseverance inherited from both sides of his family. His story stands as a continuation of a lineage that stretches from the cultural heart of Loíza and Carolina to the dynamic streets of New York City, carrying forward a legacy intertwined with history, community, and excellence.
